SUMMER CAMP July 21 - 25: Culinary Arts and Set Design | Ages 8 - 14

Ages: 8 - 14
(WEEK 1 of 3) This beloved camp session is now THREE weeks long! Register for one, two, or all three weeks.
Calling all young chefs, set designers, and performers for the most out-of-this-world session of the summer! Over three exciting weeks, we’ll transform the Tigermen Den into the extraterrestrial landscape of Planet Zanzibrax. Students will rotate between cooking, set design, and performance classes as they prepare for our unforgettable galactic adventure.
In culinary class, students will begin with kitchen safety and food prep fundamentals, mastering a variety of dishes that span global cuisines—with a special focus on New Orleans flavors. As the camp progresses, we’ll dive into creating space travel sustenance and imaginative extraterrestrial delicacies. Imagine the possibilities!
When not in the kitchen, students will help build a living set, constructing our spaceship, a planetary research basecamp, and habitats for alien life forms. They’ll also design and craft costumes to bring their characters to life—astronauts, aliens, chefs from the stars, cosmic creatures, and more!
Our journey culminates in the Free Zanzibrax Reunion Show - a theatrical, culinary adventure open to the public! Freddie & the Chins will be opening for the Kings of Karnage - the mission is the raise enough funds to free Zanzibrax from the clutches of IGRAC, the galaxy’s most fearsome realtors, once and for all! The event is Saturday, October 11th, and we invite all culinary students to participate as actors, chefs, organizers, musicians and more.

MEET THE TEACHER:
JANE TALTON (she/her) is a Bywater resident and neighbor of the Tigermen Den. Her imagery is loved by many and reflects much of what it means to live in the Bywater: a place where tongue and cheek humor, theatrics, fine art, rich patterns and fanciful creatures fit right in to the parlors, parades, unexpected pairings and imaginations of those who live here. Jane graduated from the Maryland Institute, College of Art in 1999 with a degree in Illustration. Jane has worked in many creative niches including; caricature art, book illustration, mural painting, portraiture and she has been a featured artist on the Travel Channel and ABC. Her work has shown in several New Orleans galleries as well as the CAC and Jazz and Heritage Museum. Although still a dedicated painter, she has fallen in love with teaching as it has allowed her to share a passion for art with young artists.
